Quick Tip

You can use both full Pinterest URLs and shortened 'pin.it' links. Our tool will automatically expand short links for you.

What are Pinterest Stories and Idea Pins?

Pinterest Stories are multi-slide pins that combine short video clips, images, text overlays, and music into one swipeable post. Pinterest launched the format as Story Pins and renamed it Idea Pins in 2021, so the two names mean exactly the same thing. Unlike stories on other platforms, Idea Pins never expire — they stay on a creator's profile like any regular pin.

Creators use the format for step-by-step content — recipes, workout routines, outfit breakdowns, DIY tutorials, travel itineraries — which is exactly why people want to save them: the value is spread across every slide, not just the first one.

It is also why generic pin downloaders fail on Stories. A regular pin holds a single image or video, but an Idea Pin is a container with up to 20 separate media files inside. Most tools read only the cover, hand you the first frame as a JPG, and drop everything after slide one. The downloader above parses the whole pin and lists every slide, so nothing gets missed.

How to download a Pinterest Story

The process is the same everywhere: copy the Story's link, paste it above, and save the slides you want.

On iPhone or iPad

In the Pinterest app, open the Story or Idea Pin, tap the share arrow, and choose Copy link. Switch to Safari, paste the URL into the box above, and tap download. Every video and image slide appears as its own entry — save the ones you need. Safari places them in the Files app under Downloads, where you can share them into Photos.

On Android

Open the Story in the Pinterest app, tap Share, then Copy link. Paste the link into the downloader above in Chrome or any mobile browser and download each slide you want. Files land in your Downloads folder and show up in your gallery automatically.

On desktop

On pinterest.com, open the Idea Pin and copy the URL straight from the address bar (or use Share and Copy link). Paste it above and click download. Each slide saves to your browser's Downloads folder as a separate file.

What you get from each slide

The downloader treats every slide as its own file, so a ten-slide Idea Pin gives you up to ten separate downloads. Nothing is compressed, cropped, or watermarked.

Slide typeSaved asDetails
Video slideMP4Highest resolution Pinterest serves, original audio included
Image slideJPG or PNGOriginal upload resolution, no extra compression
Animated / GIF slideMP4Saved as a short video for maximum compatibility

If you only need one standalone video, the Pinterest Video Downloader is the quicker route, and for regular single-image pins use the all-in-one Pinterest Downloader.

Troubleshooting

Only the cover image appears

The link most likely points to a regular pin, not a Story — standard pins contain a single image, and that is exactly what you got. If you are sure it is an Idea Pin, re-copy the link from the pin's own Share menu rather than from a board or search results.

The Story will not load

The pin is probably private, deleted, or saved to a secret board. The downloader can only fetch Stories that are publicly visible without logging in.

Can I paste a pin.it short link?

Yes. The short pin.it links created by the mobile app resolve automatically — paste them exactly as copied.

Some slides are missing

Occasionally a creator restricts parts of a pin, or Pinterest serves certain slides (for example ones with licensed music) only inside its own app. If a slide is not in the list, Pinterest is not serving it publicly.

I saved a slide on my phone but cannot find it

On iPhone, open the Files app and check Downloads — from there you can share items to Photos. On Android, look in the Downloads folder; saved images and videos also appear in your gallery.

Three ways to save Pinterest Stories

This web tool — nothing to install and it works in any browser; the best choice for occasional downloads. The tradeoff: you copy and paste a link each time.

The SortPin browser extension — adds download buttons directly on pinterest.com and also sorts and filters your boards, so it suits anyone who works in Pinterest daily. It runs on desktop Chrome and Firefox only.

The Telegram bot — message @SortPin_bot with /pin followed by the Story URL and it replies with every slide in two to three seconds (in groups, use /pin@sortpin_bot). Files land right in your chat — ideal on phones; the only requirement is a Telegram account. The full bot tutorial walks through every command.

Privacy and legality

Every download is fetched from Pinterest in real time — nothing is stored on SortPin servers and we keep no history of what you save. Download only public pins, keep the files for personal use, and remember that every Story belongs to its creator: ask permission and give credit before sharing their work anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I download a Pinterest Story?

Open the Story or Idea Pin, tap Share and copy the link, paste that URL into the box above, and click download. Every slide in the pin is fetched so you can save the parts you want.

2. What is the difference between a Pinterest Story and an Idea Pin?

They are the same thing — Pinterest renamed Story Pins to Idea Pins. Both are multi-slide pins that can mix video and images, and this tool downloads either one.

3. Can I download every slide of a Story or Idea Pin?

Yes. The downloader lists all available video and image slides from the pin so you can save each one individually in its original quality.

4. Do saved Pinterest Stories have a watermark?

No. Story slides are saved exactly as published, with no SortPin watermark and no branding added to the video or images.

5. Is the Pinterest Story downloader free?

Yes, it is 100% free with no limits, no subscription, and no account required.

6. Does it work on mobile?

It works in any browser on Android and iOS as well as on desktop — no app install needed to save Pinterest Stories to your device.

7. Can I download just the video or just the images from a Story?

Yes. For single videos use our Pinterest Video Downloader; for standard pins use the main Pinterest Downloader. This page is optimized for multi-slide Stories and Idea Pins.

8. Can I download someone else's Story, and will they know?

You can save any public Story, and the creator is not notified — downloads are anonymous. The content is still theirs, though, so keep saved slides for personal use and credit the creator if you share their work.

9. How many slides can an Idea Pin have?

Pinterest allows up to 20 slides (pages) per Idea Pin, each of which can be a video or an image. The downloader lists every slide it finds, even in a full 20-slide pin.

10. Why is one slide lower quality than the others?

Each slide is saved at the resolution the creator uploaded, and creators often mix phone clips, screenshots, and camera footage in one pin. The tool always fetches the largest version Pinterest serves.

11. Can I re-post a Story I downloaded?

Only with the creator's permission. Downloads are for personal use — offline viewing, mood boards, reference. Re-uploading someone else's slides as your own violates their copyright and Pinterest's terms.
